The riverrun Global Film Series aspires to create a dialogue between local community and institutions of higher education in Buffalo through a selection of films that provide a better understanding of our present existence in the globalized networked world.

The third annual riverrun Global Film Series will be held this October 10-12, 2018 and will focus on Mexican film and culture. Our keynote speaker will be Ignacio Sánchez Prado, Professor of Spanish, Latin American, and Film and Media Studies at Washington University in St. Louis.

The 2017 festival focused on Cuban film and culture and included keynote speaker Ann Marie Stock, Professor of Hispanic, Film, and Media Studies at the College of William & Mary. The 2016 inaugural riverrun Global Film Series focused on Iranian films and filmmakers. Special guests included keynote speaker Hamid Naficy, Northwestern University’s prize-winning scholar of cultural studies and postcolonial cinema and media, and the father of Iranian animation, Noureddin Zarrinkelk.
